Amanda Calkins

Greetings Vail family!

This will be my fifth year teaching and I am very excited to be here again with my Vail family. This will be an amazing year!

I have a Masters in Educational Leadership from Northern Arizona University. Prior to teaching third grade, I was a K-12 substitute and a reading coach.

My husband and I moved to Tucson 16 years ago from Indiana and we absolutely love living in the desert. We have three children ages fifteen, eleven and five years old. The oldest two have been attending school in the Vail district for many years and as a parent I am relieved to know all of their needs are being met with high expectations. As a family, we love traveling, hiking, four-wheeling and boating. Reading and painting are my favorite pastime activities.

Learning and teaching is my passion and I hope to impart that passion to my students. My goal as an educator is to instill a love of learning in each student, support them as they build their critical thinking skills, and help them reach their full potential.

A traditional African proverb states, “It takes a village to raise a child.” I believe this easily translates to, “It takes a village to educate a child.” With parents and educators working as a team the students will thrive. I am thrilled to be part of a district that supports community collaboration.

I anticipate another wonderful and fruitful year here at Copper Ridge.
