I was born in Portland, Oregon where I grew up climbing trees and riding my bike. Later, my family moved to Phoenix and I attended Deer Valley High School in Glendale, AZ and ASU in Tempe, Arizona, then moved to Flagstaff. I graduated from Northern Arizona University with a Bachelor’s of Science in Elementary Education with an emphasis in art.
After college I was a substitute teacher for a semester, then taught 1st and 2nd grades at Anthem Elementary School in Phoenix, AZ for 3 years. My husband and I moved to Montana when our first child was born. We lived in Bozeman, MT and Dillon, MT where we spent time fishing, camping, hiking and sledding with our three children. I continued subbing in Bozeman and enjoyed experiencing many different types of classroom. After 6 years we returned to Arizona and I then taught 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th grades at Canyon View Elementary School in the Catalina Foothills School District.
I chose teaching as my career because I think helping the future generations is a valuable way to ensure a bright future for our country and our world. I value teaching students to learn how to become life long learners and remain curious. I want all children to feel valuable and able to set goals and obtain them. I believe families play a crucial role in a child’s education and I encourage an open line of communication and partnership. I feel that learning goes beyond the classroom into the real world and I value the balance of extracurricular activities, chores, friends and family.
Outside of the classroom, I enjoy parenting my three teenagers, traveling and hiking with my husband, walking my dog, and curling up with a good book. I am so happy to be part of this beautiful community of excellent education at Copper Ridge!
